There are currently over 100,000 applications available in the App Store. And every single one of those apps has an icon. Dutch art director Ine Reijnen scoured them all, assembling an alphabet made from app icons consisting of single letters, numbers, and related symbol. She is now inviting everyone to send in Appoems, poetry of maximum 16 characters set in her Apphabet.

Every year the most beautiful posters and brochures of the past cultural season in Flanders are spotlighted, and by doing so also the collaboration between professional designers and cultural institutions. The ten best posters nominated from the shortlist were posted on the competition website www.powerofprint.be. Now you can cast your vote too and help decide who will be awarded the audience prize. You can vote until Thursday, October 29.

The selection committee presided by Floris van Bommel has announced the six finalists of the Audi Design Award. Since Wednesday July 1st the Dutch audience has the possibility to select its favourite finalist via the online voting module on the Dutch Design Awards website. The finalists this year are – in no particular order – Firma Rieks Swarte for the illustrated story L’enfant et les sortilèges by Maurice Ravel; Eddy Kaijser, Bart Cardinaal & Nadine Roos for The Flying Grass Carpet; Studio Wieki Somers for the Merry-go-round Coat Rack; Aldo Bakker for Porcelain Table Ware; Urban Alliance with Moodwall; and Maarten Baas for Real Time. The winner of the audience award will be announced at the Award Show on October 17th in Eindhoven, The Netherlands.

In association with paper wholesaler ModoVanGelder and with the support of BNO (Association of Dutch Designers) the Grafische Cultuurstichting has initiated the organisation a new edition of the Dutch Graphic Identity Award (Nederlandse Huisstijlprijs). This bi-annual competition is being held for the eighth time this year. Submissions are accepted up to March 1st, 2009. |
