Integrated2009 is a biannual international design conference that will take place in deSingel Antwerp on Thursday 22 & Friday 23 October 2009. Integrated2009 will focus on the crossover between contemporary graphic design, illustration, typography, new media, technology & art. Can we talk about a new research attitude, or not? And what does ‘design’ actually mean these days?

Up to 24 speakers from different countries are expected – award-winning household names and young up-and-comers alike. You can download the schedule here. The purpose of the two day conference is to look for answers, and to bolster a unique interaction of ideas, thoughts and expectations related to the immediate future. Integrated2009 welcomes students, teachers, designers, artists, clients, opinion-makers, and other cross-media addicts. Seats are limited – only 900 participants will be admitted, so don’t procrastinate if you want to attend.

At the end of Integrated2007, the 750 participants were sent into the world with the message that this conference was only the first step in a whole series. Ambitious? Perhaps. Nevertheless, “Integrated” serves not only to be seen as a sort of ultimatum to unremittingly unite things. To conclude the conference – more that just symbolically – one red tee shirt was raffled-off to the participants by way of an improvised quiz. With the text: F*ck integration! as a plea for absolute diversity…
The name of the conference refers to the versatility, complexity, and unbridled freedom in design and artistic practices. For this reason Integrated2009 wants to be a conference for doers, thinkers, and combinations thereof. We not only wish to depart from the domain of graphic design, but to connect with people who – in an unusual and highly individual manner – are active in other areas or are functioning at the fringes of graphic design, typography, image culture and autonomous art.

Integrated2009 wants to be a European platform in which ambitious, investigative insights displaying a healthy mix of image, thought and word are brought into the complexity of the design process, of whichever kind and in whatever discipline.
Integrated2009 is organised by Sint Lucas Antwerpen (Karel de Grote-Hogeschool) in collaboration with deSingel, Internationale Kunstcampus, Antwerp. Since Integrated is a non-profit initiative developed to sustain design research at Sint Lucas Antwerpen, several partners and sponsors are involved in this ambitious project.
