Sander Baumann created segd.nl at the beginning of January 2008 as a logical extension to his daily activities as a signmaker. His website covers topics ranging from signage and routing to design, typography and architecture. Sander designs and produces a.o. wayfinding for office spaces. As he often runs into subjects related to signage and design, Sander couldn’t find any Dutch language website or blog covering these topics. His field of interest is wayfinding, design and typography, and he often can’t publish about this on the corporate website. Plus he finds it very refreshing to be able to discuss those topics with people sharing his interest.
Environmental Graphic Design stands for multiple facets in the field of design – a.o. wayfinding, graphic design, planning & realization, architecture, landscape architecture, interior design and industrial design. These diverse disciplines relate to aspects of visual communication, information graphics, routing en signage. Different specializations converge in EGD, which sees professionals ranging from graphic designers to architects collaborate on creating products or producing visual artefacts. Increasingly the term Environmental Graphic Design is used to denominate visual communication.
Segd.nl is currently running an interesting contest to promote Dutch type and test your type knowledge. If you can identify the typeface in the contest picture, you could win an A3 format, stainless steel laser engraved nameplate, valued over €150,-. It will be engraved with your (Illustrator) artwork, and is supplied with a black acrylic mounting plate to fix the sign to the wall. Worldwide shipping is included in the price.
