Valentype | Testify and win the FontFont you love! Image PhotoDisc Object Series 43077 Typeface FF Elementa If you know what it’s like to passionately love a typeface, here’s a golden opportunity. Declare your love for a FontFont (only FontFonts apply!) and win a full official license to four (4) weights in OpenType format of that FontFont (for example Regular, Italic, Bold, Black). This love declaration can take any form you like: a poem, an image, a short text, whatever you feel like creating. Accepted languages for text entries are English, Dutch and French (terribly sorry but my German is rubbish). Just make sure that I don’t have to do anything to post your entry in the gallery which will be appended to this post (see technical details below).
The contest starts now and ends tomorrow (Friday) night February 15th at midnight. But there is one catch – we want at least sixty (60) submissions or the contest is void, annulled, nihil, zilch, nada. Fortunately you can enter up to three (3) submissions, so in theory if twenty very motivated people compete we’re good.
The contest is open to anyone, customers and non-customers alike, students and professionals, men and women, straight and gay, all races, all religions, no restrictions, no boundaries. So get busy in the name of love, you’ve got a little under 48 hours! And remember – sleep is highly overrated. ;)
Procedure Send me an e-mail (unzipper{at}fontshop{dot}be) with Valentype and the name of the FontFont in the subject line. This is crucial because I filter my incoming e-mails: no Valentype in the subject line means I won’t see your submission. Include your name and address in the message and your love declaration in attachment. Poems or short texts should be saved as text or MS Word format. Typographic art or design must be saved for web (Save for Web... command in Adobe Photoshop) as a simple JPEG (no progressive JPEG!) High Quality RGB image, measuring exactly 440 pixels wide and minimum 100 to maximum 500 pixels high. The file name must read “YourFullName_FontFontName" (plus the file extension of course). Substitute "YourFullName with your actual name (no spaces) and "FontFontName" with the name of the FontFont you covet.

FF Clifford: The Font, The Legacy
It all started many years ago, when I was but a lad. My father wanted me to carry on the proud family tradition of being a bucket maker, but all of my buckets ended up having holes in them and thus leaked water all over the place.
Then along came FF Clifford, and made everything better.
The end. 11 | Dan Gayle loves FF Clifford

Last week my parents came to visit. They never had to do anything with design or typography in their lives. I wouldn’t have expected them to care about type at all. So, they sat on my couch next to my desk with all the foundry catalogues stacked on it that I keep handy to score on the Typophile Type ID Board. My mother picks up the 2007 FontFont catalogue and starts looking through it. Suddenly she reads out loud «Legato». «Legato is a beautiful typeface», I say. «Yes, it’s beautiful», she answers, obviously meaning it. Man, was I proud of my mother. Pieter, I can assure you -- I did the test and my entry took me a little over ten minutes to make. Don't miss out on this opportunity to grab some cool free FontFonts. You'll regret it later on if you don't give it a go. ;)

A little under 12 hours left and we still need 3 times the number of entries so far. So get off your collective arses and create something nice! :)

Niiice. (My favourite so far, The 'Legato' one, by Ruben David Marques.)

Dav(id): you just made my day. xD I did make another entry, but I think it might not be accepted? =( Hey Yves, I hope you can at least use the text! ;P

I'm terribly sorry but we seem to have exceeded the maximum number of images for Unzipped. Please bear with us while we remedy this situation.

This is fun. There is a taz III. http://www.fontshop.com/fonts/downloads/lucasfonts/taz_iii/
Does it have to say FF? No problem anyway. :-)

I really would like to see how much Nick Shinn loves FF Fontesque.
;-}

Yes Sharon, if you look at my introductory text you'll see the foundry name FontFont highlighted. Click it, and you'll see the full list of FontFont faces. You can still change your typeface of choice for your entry. ;)

Jan, you have to see the image for his entry to understand the meaning of his message. It's actually quite funny.
That?s what I meant. I?d love to SEE it. ;-)

And the winner is...
Unzipper, why did you have to apply this 60+ rule anyway?
Dear all, I'm in Berlin for an OpenType crash course on Monday. The problem with the Unzipped image library hasn't been resolved yet so we'll probably have to wait until somewhere this week to see all the entries and pronounce the winner.
Stéphane, the 60+ rule was instated because we'd like it to be worth our while if we're going to give away free fonts. Especially since this one was open to literally everyone, and other contests on Unzipped have been attended quite poorly until now. The more people participate in these thingies, the more fun it is and the more motivated we are to give away nice stuff.

Bee mine!
Uber clever, Lex
Et voil? , all the entries have been posted. I'd like to thank everyone who participated. There were some witty submissions, some clever ones, and some that were exceptionally good. I'm really sorry for those who submitted wrong fonts or whose image wasn't the right size, but if you misread an exam question you flunk too. Life's a bitch. The final results will be communicated later this week.

I'm turning 30 next Sunday! *hint*hint* :o)
Now (more) seriously, great stuff from almost everyone. I think we need more of these "10 minute design" contests. It really sparks up creativity!

I agree completely. We will definitely follow this up. :)

Laydeeez and gennelmun -- epic discussions ensued, heroic battles were fought, but in the end we took our game of darts, printed all the entries, pasted them to the wall and... Nah, just kidding. :D

The winner is ... Ruben David Marques for his first entry for FF Legato because (a) it is a true love letter (b) he very cleverly integrated the designer's name in the declaration (c) it is genuinely funny (d) it looks good as well and (e) frankly almost everyone I've shown the gallery picks his entry as the best one. Dear Ruben, FF Legato 1 OpenType (Light, Light Italic, Bold, Bold Italic) is coming your way. Congratulations! :)
Congratulations, Ruben. Yea. Absolutely deserved.
(And as I said back 'then': 'My favourite so far, The 'Legato' one, by Ruben David Marques.' ;)

I love you. Seriously. You have no idea how happy you just made me! I've been eagerly coming here every couple of hours like a little kid just hoping my name would come up! I know it may seem silly, but who cares! I won something! :P Thank you! SERIOUSLY: THANK YOU! Oh, and it worked: I'm definitely coming back more often! Hope you post more stuff in english! xD Thank you, Yves! And thanks, Dav(id)! :D

Congratulations, Ruben, well deserved! :D
